Kirstin Hewitt
Medical Director
Dr. Kirstin Hewitt was born in the Southern United States and lived in Europe prior to settling in Oregon. Like many veterinarians, Dr. Hewitt set her goal to be a veterinarian at the age of six and found it a bonus to like science, medicine, and caring for others. What was a dream became a passion- a unique opportunity to practice medicine, work with the community, and care for people through animals.
Dr. Hewitt was a veterinary assistant before becoming a veterinarian-working with a variety of species (alpacas being her favorite) in various settings (including shelter medicine!) and even had the opportunity to work at a goat dairy for a few years.
She graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences from Oregon State University in 2014 and completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. After graduating, she spent some time in general practice and three years in emergency medicine before finding her home at Pawsitive. Her professional interests include ultrasonography, chronic gastrointestinal disease, dermatology, pain management, and behavior modification. Dr. Hewitt has a soft spot for dogs and cats needing more patience/time.
Dr. Hewitt has received the following certifications: Cat-Friendly Veterinarian Certification- American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), Oncura Ultrasound Certification and AFAST, TFAST, and Vet BLUE Global Fast Certification.
Oddly enough, Dr. Hewitt is allergic to cats, so she spends her free time with Rocky (an adopted pitbull), Apollo (a silly Frenchiebo), her partner, and about 100 indoor plants.
